NaNoWriMo 2015 and other scary things

IMG_20151101_163233Merry November, everyone! I know it’s Monday so please excuse my unsightly cheerfulness. I’d usually be dozing on the train to work but I’m still on a high from my lovely, eventful weekend. And, of course, it is now National Novel Writing Month!

First, the weekend: Halloween was spent with my writing partner S.E.Berrow as we donned our literary-themed costumes to join our mutual friends at White Mischief’s ‘Heaven and Hell’ Halloween Ball. Not wanting to go as angels or devils, we quickly settled on Shadowhunters from the Mortal Instruments series – demon hunters with angel blood running through their veins. As I’m naturally short and ginger, I opted for Cassandra Clare‘s protagonist, Clary Fray. Being of a rather more Amazonian height, Berrow chose Isabelle Lightwood, and we partied the night away with God (who apparently doesn’t look that different from the Devil – who knew?)

As most writers of my acquaintance, I have chosen to take part in NaNoWriMo 2015, which started yesterday. I will confess, I did not write so much as my name yesterday because I was thoroughly distracted by my Fantastic Piece of Glorious and Joyful News, but Monday 2nd November is a different animal.

My schedule is set, my novel chosen. I aim to finish a draft of The Winter Court this month (or at least reach the 50k word target with it). I just hope my day job is feeling co-operative. Last year I barely slept as Nano coincided with a mad rush of unexpected overtime, which is pretty unacceptable as I love sleep almost as much as breathing.

I previously wrote a blog post on How To Get The Words Down and I’ll be following my own advice this month. My timetable is as follows, factoring in the holidays and other weekend commitments I have this month. It should be doable… just.

If you’d like to download and fill in your own Nanowrimo calendar, you can find a blank version here.

All that’s left for me to say is good luck to everyone taking part!

Go on, let me know what you think!
